Supplies:

  1. Large easel and tag board sheet
  2. Letter-size plastic business card holder sheets, each one holds 10 business cards
  3. Clear tape
  4. Cardstock paper

Directions:

  1. Print out the Pro-Match Matrix sign. The directions say, "Wait, don't sit down just yet. Read the statements and choose one that fits you the best. Then slide your card into a pocket under the corresponding statement."
  2. Tape the Pro-Match Matrix sign to the top of the tag board sheet on the easel.
  3. Tape the clear, letter-size plastic card holders to the tag board sheet. Make three columns and 2 rows.
  4. Use your thinking cap to create a mix of well-defined and intriguing statements like "I want to learn more one-on-one sales techniques" or "I have an effective stress reducing ritual" or "I am active in a charity". Customize these statements for you and your client's purposes. This can be a gold mine for you. Think strategically.
  5. Print out these statements on cardstock and cut into business-card size 2'x3.5". Slide each statement in the top of each column.
  6. Place the easel within "eye shot" of the entrance, yet close to the back of the room with ample space for people to gather around and draw a crowd.
  7. Recruit one or two people to greet the audience members and give them directions for the Pro-Match Matrix.
  8. Before you present, bring the easel up to the stage.
  9. For audiences of 150 or less, do one board. For bigger audiences, use more boards or have more specific statements.

  Voila!

Notes

Why will the audience play along?

"Ooooo, little, yellow, new, different," the audience thinks as they see yellow statements on the board. They are curious. When you walk in the room for a meeting aren't you hoping to look at something instead of sitting idly by, waiting for the program to begin? Wouldn't it be nice to exchange friendly banter with "audiencemates"? Others will flock to the crowd around the board wondering if there are free corndogs.

Origin

From my mad quest for productivity, combined with my zeal to bring people together, the Pro-Match Matrix was born under a different name several years ago. The original concept was to generate committees and special interest groups within my non-profit organizations, as well to facilitate networking. The value and purpose has grown infinitely.

The magic of this wondrous instrument is it benefits your audience as much as you. Good luck!

Here is a shortcut to integrate your audience into your program, focus on key issues and get up close and not-too-personal with your audience.

The Pro-Match Matrix is a bulletin board with topic headings and columns with spaces for the attendees' business cards below. It is a pre-meeting activity to generate attendee participation.

Positioned at the entrance to your workshop, the Pro-Match board invites people to place their business card beneath a header/topic of their choice. In the process, people "self-sort" into categories representing their interests or an area of expertise. The topics are chosen by the speaker to create interaction or connection within the group. The possibilities are endless.
